Fuel-Efficient Driving Habits for Hobbs Drivers

You can make the most of your car’s fuel anytime and anywhere. Keep the following fuel-saving tips in mind as you cruise through Andrews:

  1. Lightly Press the Gas Pedal: To accelerate, you definitely don’t want to “punch it.” Gently press the gas pedal and increase your speed by about 10 mph every five seconds or so.
  2. Plan Ahead for Traffic: Stop-and-go traffic is rough on your car’s mechanical components, as well as its fuel economy. When heading out for work or an errand, try to avoid rush hour by leaving earlier or by finding a less busy route.
  3. Avoid High Speeds: Try to keep your speed between 55 and 65 mph. Cars use more gas when traveling at higher speeds, and keeping your speed regulated will help conserve fuel.
  4. Coast to a Stop: When it’s safe to do so, coast to a stop rather than hitting the brakes. How can you save fuel while driving on hills? Easy! Brake slightly as you travel uphill, then let your car coast downhill.
  5. Use Air Conditioning Sparingly: Use the air conditioning when traveling at highway speeds. While the AC uses gas to operate, it’s recommended that you use it vs. opening the windows. Open windows on the highway create drag, which reduces fuel economy.
